Helping developing countries modernize their agricultural practices
-
OUR STRATEGY
NEEMA utilizes scientific research and data in its initiatives to advance health and nutrition. By working hand-in-hand with local farmers and local nonprofit organizations, the organization has created a network to better forward agricultural advancement. This group also serves an essential role in asserting and lobbying institutional changes in Africa. With the goals forwarded, the organization aims to end hunger, rural poverty, household food insecurity, and acute malnutrition experienced by farmers and other less privileged individuals within the community. Widespread training and information dissemination among rural entrepreneurs, women, youths, and physically-challenged individuals are also being conducted as a part of our agricultural development strategy. -
TWO CORE OBEJCTIVES
- Capacity building and institutional strengthening initiatives are done in order to better modernize agricultural practices within rural areas. This strategy includes training farmers in contemporary, evidence-based farming practices.
- The organization aims to contribute to food and livelihood security as a way of reducing hunger, malnutrition, and widespread poverty. This is done by giving vulnerable farmers access to different planting material of adequate quality.

WORK INITIATED
-
RICE CULTIVATION
As part of the growing need to improve food supply and security, NEEMA has initiated a rice cultivation project in the Plaine de la Ruzizi of the DRC. This is in consideration of the high potential for rice production in the Great Lakes region of Central Africa. -
MAIZE/CORN FARMING
For several decades now, the former cassava cultivation practiced in the Great Lake region has been replaced by maize cultivation. To better help in improving the cultivation practices in corn farming, we work with local smallholder farmers for the value chain. -
OTHER STAPLE GRAIN
Plantation of Beans and Other Staple Grains for Improved Nutrition It is the objective of the organization to increase the availability of improved seeds and diffusion of modernized agricultural technology. This way, there could be improved market access for relatively drought-tolerant crops including sorghum, millets, and pulses.
