The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is one of the worst countries in which to be in as women and a child.
DRC is among the five poorest nations in the world. In 2022, nearly 72% of Congolese, around 68 million people, lived on less than $1.55 a day. About one out of six people living in extreme poverty in Sub Sahara Africa lives in the DRC. Severe chronic food insecurity is widespread and stunting levels among children under five in region staggering high (53.7%).
Today, the number of people in the DRC facing extreme hunger are the highest in the world. Malnutrition is the underlying cause of almost half of the deaths of children under the age of five, at the same time, the severity of the food crisis and situation continues to get worse.
NEEMA Corporation has launched an emergency response for the Democratic Republic of Congo through agriculture sustainability to help feed 2 million people, including 0.9 million children. We’re screening children and pregnant mothers for acute malnutrition and providing families with nutrition support.
